James H. Shelton is a self-taught watercolorist who has painted off and on throughout his life since he was fourteen years old.  It was only after retiring from a career in publishing that he took up professional painting.  His first love has been the Hispanic cultures along the border.  He feels that whereas the border is not everyone's cup of tea, it certainly has its own particular appeal and allure.  He strives to capture this particular mix of mystery, excitement, and adventure that only the Mexican border towns such as Acuna and N. Laredo provide.  Shelton has also had an extensive interest in Jazz personalities and their portraiture.
